Format of PTE-Academic Exam

The Pearson Exam for English Academic consist of four sections.
  1. Speaking
  2. Writing
  3. Reading
  4. Listening



Each section is further divided into different types of questions to evaluate your skills.


Moreover the skills are assessed based on following Enabling Skills.
  1. Grammar
  2. Spelling
  3. Pronunciation
  4. Oral Fluency
  5. Vocabulary
  6. Written Discourse
  7. Spoken and Written Language - reference with the contexts in which it is used.

All About PTE - Introduction to Blog

WHAT IS PTE

PTE stands for Pearson Test of English Language Exam, which can be given to get yourself assessed and prove on your language ability. This tested is accepted by many universities across CANADA, AUSTRALIA, USA and UK. Now this test is also accepted by Australian Immigration Department, as a proof of your language ability. Following are a little more information about this test.
  • this a computer based 3-hours test consist of four parts (Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening).
  • Evaluation of all parts is done by a State of Art and intelligent computer based scoring system.
  • There are testing centers in many cities across the world, and registration is completely online.
  • The score or evaluation report is available within 5 working days. In most of cases within 24-48 hours of exam completion.
  • The report can be submitted to any university or department online for Pearson's website
  • There are many books and material available for preparing for PTE-Academic exam.

Personally when I was preparing for PTE; I spent a lot of time looking for answers to really small questions. So I have decided to put this blog in place as one point reference about PTE. The participants of this blog will help to make it more useful. And in the end everyone can participate, and only relevant material will be through on the website. My team and friends will make sure to remove any redundant posts to make it easy and clear for everyone. Lets help each other.

Speaking

This section is aimed to test spoken English skills of the candidate. Following is the important information about this sections.


Total Time: 30- 40 minutes depending on the format of test and number of questions.


Question Types: Mainly there are five types of questions in this section.
  1. Read aloud
  2. Repeat sentence
  3. Describe image
  4. Re-tell lecture
  5. Answer short question



Note: The score of speaking skill is only evaluated by this section. So practice these five question types a lot, as there is no room for the error or cover-up for speaking in any other section.

Writing

This section is aimed to test writing skills of the candidate. Following is the important information about this sections.


Total Time: 40 - 60 minutes depending on the format of test and number of questions.


Question Types: Mainly there are two types of questions in this section.
  1. Summarize written text (one sentence)
  2. Essay (20mins)



Note: The score of your writing is not only evaluated by this section. There are two more questions in Listening and Reading sections (one each), which also contributes towards your writing score.

Summarize Text

Essay

Reading

This section is aimed to test English Reading skills of the candidate. Following is the important information about this sections.


Total Time: 32- 41 minutes depending on the format of test and number of questions.


Question Types: Mainly there are five types of questions in this section.


  1. Multiple Choice - Choose Multiple Answer
  2. Multiple Choice - Choose Single Answer
  3. Re-Order Paragraph
  4. Fill in the Blanks - Select from Drop Down - Ready and Writing Skills - each question has multiple options to choose from
  5. Fill in the Blanks - Select appropriate word from a list - one list for one question.

Listening

This section is aimed to test Listening skills of the candidate. Following is the important information about this sections.


Total Time: 45- 57 minutes depending on the format of test and number of questions.

  3. Multiple Choice - Choose Multiple Answer
